It's a reality that the best sights of bugs and beasties happen when you don't have the camera at hand. Happily our iguanas love to pose, caterpillars stick around and animals put in surprising appearances, though we could have done without the skunk which (unkindly!) marked his visit! We always assumed the possums lived in the native woodland but felling a water-apple tree one day, down came mother with a baby on her back and the second baby was rescued for a photo-shot; thankfully the mother returned to rescue him too.
Though we're cautious about hidden snakes, we rarely see them, though doubtless they are around for the enthusiast willing to search by torch light. Paradoxically, we pay more attention to spotting the hidden wasp and hornet nests which can prove a painful discovery. 'Nature's architects', their nests are works of art we prefer to leave undisturbed, you have to admire these industrious little creatures!
Common names are provided where we know them.
